GEMM Delhi, a partnership between the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and National Law University, is the first multidisciplinary GEMM center that operates at the nexus of law and science to create community-based solutions.

Along the Yangtze River Delta in Hangzhou, Westlake University is developing and deploying solutions to monitor pollutants in water bodies, saltwater intrusion, and water resource management.

New Zealand
The Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, a research center hosted by the University of Otago in collaboration with five other New Zealand universities, is a world leader in quantum optics and atomic physics. By applying this expertise to precision sensing of inland water quality, they are an integral part of the GEMM Network.

Scotland
The city of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde launched their GEMM center in 2019. GEMM Strathclyde now hosts a doctoral training program in global environmental monitoring and policy, a water economies project, the GEMM Glasgow Urban Air Project, and an indoor/outdoor air monitoring project funded by ICLEI.

Dr. D. Michelle Bailey
Co-Chair
Dr. Michelle Bailey is Co-Chair of the GEMM Initiative. She is a Research Chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) within the United States Government. Her research focuses on development and implementation of optical diagnostic techniques for atmospheric trace-gas detection, she is a member of Optica’s Public Affairs Council, and she brings a passion for community-based science having been a Fellow with AGU’s Thriving Earth Exchange.

Dr. Tomohiro Oda
Co-Chair
Dr. Tomohiro Oda is Co-Chair of the GEMM Initiative. He is a senior scientist at the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) and an adjunct professor at the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, University of Maryland, College Park. His research focuses on modeling and satellite-based mapping of carbon emissions to visually inform communities of the local emissions. He has brought together leading researchers, technology developers, and policy stakeholders as the meeting chair of the GEMM Initiative’s GEMM Asia Summit in December 2022.
